artist biography
North Easton is a Vancouver Island–born Canadian songwriter and storyteller known for live performances that carry real emotional dynamics—quiet intimacy, sudden lift, hard-earned humour, and songs that feel like snapshots of the human condition.
A prolific writer and lifelong performer, North has spent decades building a deep catalogue of originals. He has released multiple albums across his career, including work as the lead singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter for bands such as Garrity and My Favourite Tragedy, alongside solo releases that travel further into the heart of change, love, and the moments that alter a life’s direction.
Internationally, his songwriting has been recognized by the UK Songwriting Competition, including a win for “Me Without You” (co-written with Rosanne Baker Thornley and Andrew Allen).
Beyond music, North’s broader artistic practice often extends into visual storytelling—capturing festival energy through photography and building a cohesive “songs + moments” world around the live experience.
Whether he’s on a festival stage, in a listening room, or performing a house concert, North’s show feels less like a setlist and more like a shared night—story-forward, human, and built to leave the room different than it entered.
what people are saying…
“If they gave out awards for determination in the music business, North Easton would be a leading contender. ”
— Lynn Saxberg (Ottawa Citizen)
“I’ve always thought that if North Easton hadn’t chosen to be a musician, he would have made an outstanding therapist or a self help guru. But when you hear his music, listen to his words, and experience his live performance, there is no way he could be anything else.”
— Terry Steeves (Apt 613)
“This is songwriting at its finest. North is Canada’s Dave Matthews Band. ”
— Noah SaBourin (Music Director, Live 88.5 Ottawa)
“I can’t say I recall taking in a performance quite like this before. Where the stories were as important as, maybe even more important than the music itself. North has a gift for telling tales.”
— Scott Martin (Spotlight Ottawa)

Career Milestones
Over the years of playing music, travelling and meeting incredible people, a number of things have been remembered along the way. Some shaped the music, some pushed it in different directions. And while some of my life milestones like jumping out of an airplane 20x or bungee jumping in tandem with my wife 150ft over a river are spectacular…below are a few of my favourite moments connected to music.
-
Winning $100,000
Lucky to be in Ottawa where this competition started. We entered and made it through to the semi finals in the first year, and tied for 2nd in the 2nd year. Our total winnings were $100,000 at the end of it all. Unfortunately an out of control smartie addiction ate through the money quickly and we were once again back to starving musicians.
-
American Dad
The texting song was written to promote people texting the radio station for Newcap Radio’s Big Money Shot in Ottawa. I never would have thought it would have been playing on U.S. Syndicated T.V. When we got the call from Twentieth Century Fox, we were more than excited. The song plays for about a minute and a half in

Cross Canada Tours
Packing up a van with pretty much everything you have, guitars, mixer, p.a. system, oh..and a bunch of kids. Yep…travelling across Canada from Ottawa to Vancouver Island is almost number one on my life milestones….And I’ve done it now 14 times. This year will be the 15th and I can’t wait.

Opening for Bruce Cockburn
The Festival of Friendship had more than 25,000 people in attendance. On the bill…Bruce Cockburn headliner…and my band Garrity as the opener. What an incredible experience and it taught me a ton about what it takes to be in a band and how to communicate with people who like what I do. We signed autographs after this show for more than 2 hours. And as tragedy would have it…it also led to the break up of Garrity…ask me sometime and I’ll tell you all about it.
-
Indie Pop Album of The Year Award
Watching my band jump up and down in a room full of our peers when we won Indie Pop Album of the Year (Canadian Music Radio Awards) was an incredible moment. We were green but eager and that win led us to some pretty cool shows with some great bands.
-
Opening for Great Big Sea, 54-40, Big Sugar and more
Playing on the big stage is something that you have to experience to truly understand. 10,000 plus people all screaming back at you. Clapping, singing, smiling…playing with these bands has been one of the greatest performance experiences I have ever had.

Mr. Lahey Sky High
The Gananoque Festival with Snoop Dogg and Simple Plan was not the success the organizers had hoped for. In fact they had even got Mr. Lahey and Randy to host the whole thing. Not only did we manage to convince Mr. Lahey to leave the festival early so he could jump out of a plane….(true story)…but me and Rach spent the entire evening with him and Randy…and what an evening it was…surely on this list of Career Milestones
Oh, we don’t got much time, till the music stops and the night it ends
Oh, when we say goodbye, all my thoughts will be making plans,
…of when we meet again!
